Okay it's true: our community is small. If live in the gay area of a gay city, take three steps out your front door and you're liable to run into in your ex (blech) or your therapist (ulgh) or worst of all, your ex with your therapist (insert retching sound here). So where do you go to meet other eligible lesbian-type folks that aren't overly intimately acquainted with your therapist/ex/ex therapist/pet groomer etc?
Simple. Go to pride. But not pride in your city (see above) or pride in another city with Too Much Attitude To Talk To Someone They Don't Know (San Francisco, New York). Nope go to another, not as cool, smaller city where you will be Much Appreciated Fresh Meat. Here's a few I personally like
Mid South Pride.
Mid South Pride is actually in Memphis Tennessee but they call it “Mid South” because tons of people come from Mississippi. If you're tired of hearing people whine about how hard it is to be gay in Chelsea, head to Mid South Pride. Excellent friendly ice cream vendors as well.
Lacrosse Wisconsin Pride
I bet you didn't know there was a Lacrosse Wisconsin Pride, did you? Perhaps you didn't even know there was such a place as Lacrosse Wisconsin. Be that as it may, this is a lovely little pride, held at the Octoberfest Grounds, so you know it's got me, um festive. Continues all day into the late night hours.
Staten Island Pride.
Okay I've never been to Staten Island Pride but I've been to Staten Island. It isn't easy to be gay there, so it might be a great place to celebrate/commiserate. All five of New York City's boroughs now have pride events so you don't have to attend MegaPride in Manhattan to have a (friendly) pride experience.
